Slouchy Socks

I found some socks while browsing through Ravelry that looked so comfortable.  They are the Feminine Raggsokker by Ingrid Nodtvedt.  They seemed perfect for those days when you are just hanging around the house.  They will be great with shorts or leggings depending on the weather.

Cascade Yarn, worsted, spuntaneous effect, socks, slouch, single ply, knit

I started going through my stash, and I couldn't find what I wanted.  These socks use worsted yarn, and that is not a weight I buy much of.  Then I found my Cascade Yarns Spuntaneous Worsted Effect in the 314 colorway.  Although the yarn is single ply, I decided to go ahead and use it.  These socks will not be getting a great deal of wear and tear.  They will never be worn with shoes, and just at home.  I love the many color speckles throughout and thought it would work very well with this pattern.

The pattern is very short.   If you need very detailed instruction, this may not be the pattern for you.  I was unsure of what size I should cast on.  I started looking at other completed projects and saw another user having the same problem.  She wore a very similar size to me, and cast on 44 stitches, so I did the same.  Another comment I saw from another user is if you are unfamiliar with knitting socks, some parts of the pattern may be a little unclear.  Fortunately, this is a free pattern, so if you are interested, you would be able to read through it before decide to proceed or not.

The construction of these are very different from most.  I'm not sure I have ever made socks that didin't have ribbing at the top, and I definitely haven't made any that had ribbing under the cuff.  The slouch effect looks more complicated that it is.  It's made with only a combination of knit and purl stitches.  The cuff is so very comfortable.  I really like that it is loose fitting, yet I am not having to pull them up.  There also is not really a typical gusset.  There is still a heel flap, and stitches picked up along the sides, but there is not multiple rounds of decreases.  I assume that is the advantage of having the ribbing just above the heel.  There isn't as much shaping that needs to be done.  Since the yarn was a worsted weight, these knit up very quick.
