Christmas Panic Knitting

Welcome to my first blog post! I hope you enjoy seeing my Christmas projects.

I'll start with the Persian Dreams by Jenise Hope.  I made this one for my sister.  It was her 40th birthday on January 1st, so I gifted this to her for a combo gift.  Since it was a milestone year, I figured I would go big.  I'll start with the completed project.

Persian Dreams knit blanket

I had been debating making this for so long, but I had been looking for yarn that would make it an affordable gift. and I had not been able to find what I was looking for.  I later saw that KnitPicks was having a sale, so I ordered the blue/teal kit, even knowing that it was going to be a very tight crunch to be able to finish in time for Christmas.  I do love the finished project, but it was very trying to get it completed in time.   I am not employed at the moment, so it did give me the days to be able to work on it, but I would never try and make one so fast again.

I did alter the pattern slightly by doing a garter stitch border instead of the patterned border.   Each hexagon is knitted individually.  The pattern says to complete all hexagons, and then graft them together at the end.  I chose to complete each hexagon pattern, and then graft those together into the final project.   There were six different hexagon patterns.  Below is patterns #1 & #2.

Pattern #1 is the center 4 hexagons, and #2 is the outer 6 hexes.  I saw on Ravelry that some people had used skewers on the edge stitches instead of waste yarn, and I decided to give this a try.   I had a love/hate relationship with these.  I liked the way it kept it laid out, but I often got splinters, and as the blanket grew, it became very hard to move around and graft onto.  To graft them together I used the kitchener stitch.  I have now done more kitchener than I have ever wanted to do at one time, or do again.

Pictured above is patterns #1-#4.   At this point, there were many very pokey skewers to work with, but the end was near!

I did enjoy this project, and I could see making one for myself, but it will be no time soon.  I did manage to finish this in time, and gift it to my sister.  She loved it, and is currently looking for a way to display it.  She does have dogs and kids, so she is a little worried to actually use it.  I told her to not worry about it, and to just enjoy it.  She is still afraid to snag it.  If anyone reading this has a suggestion on how to display it, please let me know!

Projects two and three were two dragons made in two different color themes.  The pattern was Smauglock by Mia & Mom.  These were to be gifted to two of my nephews.

Knit stuffed dragon

These were a fun knit.  Even with knitting two closely together I never got bored.  There were so many little parts, it kept my attention.  The only part I didn't really enjoy, was sewing all the pieces together.

The face had many little pieces to be added.  It was nice that you sewed the pieces on as you went, so the dragons started to come to life as you went.  This was the first stuffed animal I had knitted, and it wasn't as hard I was expecting it to be.

The last of my Christmas knitting was for my Mother-in-law.  The pattern for this one was
Vintage shawl by Berta Karapetya.  I found it in the book Runway Knits.
Knit vintage shawl wrap

This was a quick knit.  Although, I did break this up into many small sections at a time.  The pattern consists of quite a few double yarn overs, and I felt it was hard on my wrists to work on this for long periods of time.  I ended up liking this one so much, I think I will make me one at some point.

Thank you for visiting my blog, and reading though my Christmas knitting.
